Walking alone through the forest, you notice that the moss is more radiant than usual. Leaning in to see it glitter up close, you notice digital artefacts begin to appear in the deep green layers of the forest floor. As you look around, you wonder if these are the remnants of a past civilization.
Artefacts is an album by experimental electronic producer and composer Measure (Sergei Kofman). Following the release of his EP "I Hear the Scent of Change and Stillness", Measure dives deeper into a world of frantic grooves, shimmering detail, and raw acoustic elements.
Measure chases the music at the tip of the tongue and stuck at the back of the head. Inspired by pushing the limits of sound design and wrapping it up in a parcel of lush harmony and thorough storytelling; he is seeking out sounds that are familiar but never quite within grasp.
In 2022, Measure received support from the Toronto Arts Council for his project I Hear the Scent of Change and Stillness, an EP which was released in 2023 and was accompanied by a concert at Toronto's ArrayMusic. Measure performs as a live solo artist, including appearances for UKAI's carnival of festival and recurring sets for Frequencies. Measure has a masters degree in Composition from the University of Toronto in 2020, where he was awarded the 2021 Ann H. Atkinson prize for his piece Voices in the Whir.
